Length 60 minutes. Capacity is unlimited.

Violinist Gwen Laster will demonstrate and discuss ways string players can reimagine their classical training into understanding chord progressions; and share ideas on recycling and reinventing approaches to scales, arpeggios, melodies and rhythms.

The 7th Chicago Jazz String Summit (CJSS) will present live-stream and pre-recorded performances and workshops showcasing jazz, improvised, and experimental music by internationally celebrated string players. Founded by critically acclaimed cellist and composer, Tomeka Reid, CJSS is open to the public and will take place in collaboration with Experimental Sound Studio and Mills Performing Arts.
